The Healthiest Chocolate Protein Powder for Health And Weight Loss
With the amount of protein powders on the market today, many dieters or athletes are wondering what the healthiest chocolate protein powder is. It can be a bit overwhelming at first, but there are a few ways to tell the healthier options from the garbage.
First, it should have Minimal ingredients and No artificial Sugars or Sweeteners. Second, it should be made from Grass Fed Cows and Hormone Free. Lastly, it needs to taste good.
Benefits of using a protein powder
Convenience
Many nutritionists recommend you have a certain number of calories every day, especially if you are exercising. This is not always the easiest thing to do, especially when we have such hectic and busy lifestyle.
By using a whey protein powder, we can get a quick and delicious meal replacement when we are in a pinch.
Remember that protein supplements are meant to be used in conjunction to real food, not an entire replacement for healthy nutrition
Weight Loss
One of the ways I can lose weight is by using protein powders to deal with my sweet cravings. When I am craving something chocolate, I made a healthy protein smoothie for dessert.
Instead of eating a pint of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, my protein smoothie has significantly fewer calories and is overall much healthier.
This leads to fewer calories and overall body fat reduction. Check out my favorite healthy Chocolate protein smoothie below!
My Favorite Recipe uses a healthy chocolate protein powder
This is what I call “Hershey’s” Chocolate Bar with Almond Smoothie
- 1 cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
- 1 Scoop Chocolate Whey or Egg White Protein Powder (Check out the Natural Whey Protein we use at My Supplement Store here)
- 1 tablespoon Almond Butter
- 3-5 Ice Cubes
Blend and enjoy!
Increases daily protein intake easily
Protein drinks are a great supplement way to help you get more protein in during the day. Whether you are trying to build new muscle tissue or trying to lose weight, adding protein powder into your routine can help assist with both of those goals.
Helps build new muscle tissue in conjunction with weight training
Using a protein powder in conjunction with strength or resistance training can help the body build new muscle tissue. Just remember that taking protein by itself without exercise will more than likely make you gain body fat instead of muscle.
Assists with recovery after exercise as the body exercises, it puts stress on the skeletal and nervous systems. By increasing protein intake through healthy protein drinks, studies show that the recovery process is improved. (1)
How it tastes
Let’s be honest here… taste should be an important factor when determining the healthiest protein powder. After all, if you don’t like how it tastes, you probably won’t want to buy it again.
Natural and healthy protein powders can taste amazing!
In fact, sometimes I feel like I’m cheating and having a chocolate milkshake that tastes so good.
Honestly, there are so many healthy protein powders on the market and you can’t go wrong if they adhere to the prerequisites above.
These recommendations are from our personal experience and we feel these are the best healthy chocolate protein powders.
Our recommendations
MRM Natural Whey Protein Powder

Optimum Nutrition brand Whey Protein is the brand of protein powder I have been using for over 15 years. I started with their regular Whey Blend, but now have moved to their natural whey protein because it contains fewer fillers and junk
It is also one of the most affordable protein powders on this list!
If you can’t handle dairy that well, look at the other options in this article. Otherwise, you can check current prices on My Supplement Store here.
MRM Egg White
Last on our list is the MRM egg white. I like to include a non-dairy option for those who cannot have lactose. I have been using MRM for the past 10 years and it is still one of the healthiest proteins you can get.
Even if you can tolerate dairy products, Egg White Protein has one of the highest biological values because of its essential amino acids profile.
I like to rotate between whey and egg white proteins so my body won’t get used to a particular food.
Egg white protein is also great for keto and low-carb dieters.
In terms of taste, MRM is also sweetened with stevia and tastes very good. However, it is not as “creamy” as whey protein. This is to be expected since it contains no dairy.
There is not much they can do about that but for what it’s worth, it tastes good for a healthy chocolate protein powder.
It does mix very well, and I have found it digests easily and quickly.
MRM is local to where I live in northern San Diego, but you should be able to get it at health food stores near you or on amazon.

Garden of Life Grass Fed Whey Protein

If you have the budget for it, buying a whey protein powder that is made from grass-fed cows is the way to go.
Specifically, these grass-fed cows are also not treated with hormones. It is made with minimal ingredients and no artificial sweeteners or fillers.
Lastly, it is sweetened with stevia, which is great for keto and low-carb dieters.
It tastes about the same as other grass-fed whey proteins I have tried which makes sense.
The ingredients are very similar, just from different sources
Lastly, I was surprised that it is sold at such a reasonable price for the quality. It is significantly less expensive than other Grass-Fed Whey brands.
