Low Carb Foods to Lose Weight for Summer
It’s that time of the year again. Time to get the swimsuits, suntan lotion on, and get ready for the beach. Another way to get ready for the summer is to get into shape! One of my favorite ways to lose weight for the summer is to eat a low-carb diet. Here are my favorite low-carb foods to lose weight for summer
Grilled Chicken Breast
I love the taste of flame-grilled chicken breast! Unfortunately, I am not allowed to have a flamed grill where I live. I have to settle for the George Foreman grill for chicken for now.
However you cook the chicken, the breast meat is extremely low carb, low fat, and low calorie. What chicken breast is high in is protein! I like to season my chicken with sea salt, pepper, and lime juice. My mouth is watering thinking about it!
Spinach
Popeye was certainly on to something with his love for spinach. However, I would stay away from the canned variety like Popeye eats.
Spinach is an awesome low-carb food that is great raw or cooked.
I like to add it to my pasta dishes to get extra fiber in my diet.
Turkey Burgers
Sometimes I want a nice big burger but without all of the calories. If seasoned properly, turkey burgers have a ton of protein, low calories, and low carbs.
Make it even lower carb and replace the bun with a lettuce wrap.
Broccoli
Broccoli is a healthy vegetable packed with fiber, vitamins, and minerals. We like adding a little parmesan cheese to make a very tasty low-carb dish.
Almond Milk
I have been having almond milk in my coffee (per my wife’s recommendation), and I haven’t looked back. Almond milk is also great for protein drinks and smoothies.
If you have lactose intolerances, almond milk is one of the best replacements for dairy milk. It is not as creamy, but it still tastes delicious and nutty. Just remember to get the unsweetened version.
Added sugar makes it no longer low carb!
Whey Protein Powder
Whey protein powder (or alternative) is a great way to get extra protein without extra calories. I believe real food will always be the best option, but whey protein is great if you’re in a pinch and need to get 20+ grams of protein in your body.
When choosing a protein powder, try to find one with minimal ingredients and processing.
Macadamia Nuts
Macadamia nuts are one of the lowest carbs nuts you can buy. And luckily, they taste amazing. The one disadvantage is that they are a bit expensive. You can sometimes find them on sale at Costco or other discount grocery stores.
Just make sure they are not covered in chocolate or other calorie-rich flavors. Sea Salt only!
Spaghetti Squash
If you’re craving some pasta, spaghetti squash is a great way to get that feeling without the bloat of gluten pasta. There is a lot of liquid when cooking, so try to drain it as much as you can when serving.
