Intermittent Fasting for Weight Loss and Overall Health
Intermittent fasting has been popularized in the last few years as a way to lose weight, in addition to many other health benefits. I have been following Intermittent Fasting for about 5 years on and off and have seen great results.
Intermittent Fasting for Weight Loss works great for some, but maybe not for others. Let’s discuss some of the BENEFITS and if it is right for you.
What is Intermittent Fasting?


Intermittent Fasting is a way of meal timing to help promote more weight loss.
You would cycle between a fasting period and an eating period during the day. An example would be starting a fast at 8 pm after dinner, then eating again at 12pm the next day.
The eating period would then start at 12 pm and end at 8 pm that night. You essentially are just skipping breakfast.
But won’t that slow down my metabolism?
Studies have shown that eating smaller meals does not increase your metabolism and that weight loss is more about total calories for the day.
Many Intermittent Fasting experts believe the 6 meals supplement companies made up a daily protocol to keep consumers gaining weight and buying fat-burning supplements.
Why would you buy their fat burners if you could just eat less and get better results?
While there may be some truth to this, I believe that as long as you burn more calories than you are taking in, the body will lose weight.
Intermittent Fasting for Weight Loss?
Since you will eat fewer meals per day at a calorie deficit, your body will lose weight. Also, when in a fasted state, the body will have no choice but to begin burning its fuel storage in the case of body fat.
I specifically like working out in a fasted state. If you think about this logically, if there is no food in the body when you exercise, the body will have to begin digging into its fat cells for energy.

Is Intermittent Fasting right for you?
In most cases, the answer is again, “It depends”. Intermittent Fasting is a great way to help people lose weight fast. However, some people do better eating smaller meals more frequently.
When some of my clients have started Intermittent Fasting, the first few days are a struggle dealing with hunger pangs. This does go away, and many of my clients found that it was more of an emotional than actual physical hunger.
In my case, I enjoy eating 2 large meals and one snack versus the “recommended” 6 smaller meals a day.
That doesn’t mean you should overeat on junk and fast food. For me, it is more about convenience and not having to prepare so many meals in 1 day.
