Healthy Vegan Snacks at The Grocery Store
Following a vegan lifestyle can be challenging when trying to find healthy snacks that taste good. However, there are many options that you can find at your regular grocery store when you’re in a pinch. Here are our favorite vegan snacks at the grocery store:
Fruit
When I was a vegan in my mid-20s, I was classified more as a fruitarian. I was eating a ton of fruit every day consisting of a wide variety of choices.
Some of my favorites are:
Bananas
Apples
Oranges
Berries
Grapes
Pineapple
Fruit is readily available at every grocery store and is a great vegan snack option. Bananas, apples, and oranges do not need to be refrigerated, so it makes them great for travel.
Vegetables
Carrots, Celery, Squash, mushrooms, broccoli, snap peas, and so many others can be great snacks. Most people know the benefits of eating more vegetables but may not consider it the best snack option.
However, they can be quite tasty especially when paired with a delicious vegan dip like guacamole or hummus. Speaking of which…
Hummus
Hummus is an amazing-tasting dip consisting of garbanzo beans(chickpeas), tahini, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper.
It is packed with healthy fats, fiber, and clean carbohydrates.
It does contain a decent number of calories, so try to limit it to not go overboard.
Nuts
Different kinds of nuts such as almonds, peanuts, and cashews are popular vegan snacks at grocery stores.
They are extremely satisfying, full of healthy fats, and taste great.
Like hummus, Nuts are very high in calories, so they need to be eaten in moderation.
Veggie Straws / Sticks
Although a bit on the processed side, veggie sticks are going to be a far better choice than eating good old-fashioned Lay’s potato chips.
Although not our first choice, they can be a good crunchy and salty alternative to potato chips when you’re in a pinch
Nut Butters
Peanut Butter, Almond Butter, and Cashew butter are awesome snacks for vegans. I like to dip celery in peanut butter, and I am not even a vegan anymore.
Just like nuts, they are calorie dense, so make sure you are using portion control. If you are on a budget, stick to the peanut butter as Almond and Cashew butter tend to be much more expensive.
Tortilla Chips, Salsa, Guacamole
Chips, Salsa, and Guacamole are perfect for snacking, especially on game day! Guacamole is filled with healthy fats from Avocado, and the combination of spices and lime juice makes it a real treat.
If you want to make it really healthy, cut the chips and use sliced veggies instead.
